3) Is values4antiques.com easy to use?

Once you Log In as a member, you will be immediately directed to a Main Search page where you can enter by typing just about any item you wish to research.  You can use terms or words that are as general or specific as you wish.  To narrow down your Results, you may even use multiple words.

A new page will display all items that match your Search words in a Photo Grid or Album format of small photos (thumbnails).  Each small photo on this page will have a "check box" for you to select this item.  Once you have selected one or more items, click on the button that reads "Compare" to get a new page with only the selected items you want to see in more detail.  This page displays the same photo with more information such as a Description for each item and how much it sold for at auction.  On this page, if you click again on any specific item, you will get a new page with just this item with a larger photo, its Description, Price Realized, Auction House it sold and when.

If you wish, you can Print this last item page for your records.  You can search for as many items as you wish within your Subscription period, there is no limit at all.  For an example on this please visit our How it Works page

4) What kind of Auction records are included in the database?

Only records from Live Auctions are included in our database, which are Auctions that sell their items to a Live audience with real and supervised bidding.  No eBay Auction records are included in this database.  All items shown are from actual Sales and all have been Sold at the Prices shown.  No "Passed" or "No Sale" lots are included.  Also, all items are shown in photos to make it easy in comparing with your item instantly.  All records come from Auctions that took place in the last 3 years and our database is constantly updated with more results as they become available.  Most Auction Houses are located within the United States of America and a few in Europe.

5) Why is Values4Antiques.com better than Books, Catalogues or Auction Houses' own websites?

There are several books and catalogues with Auction Prices realized on the market that contain much of this information for under $30 each.  However, in most cases each of these books or catalogues contains only a few hundreds of auction records and you would need many to form a fairly accurate opinion on an item's value.

Also, although many Auction Houses publish their Past Auctions Results on the internet, they do so one at a time and often on specialized categories with no real "search" capabilities.

In contrast, Values4Antiques.com contains more than 100,000 unique records from all Antiques & Collectibles categories at your fingertips - literally!!

6) Can I access this database when I am away from my home or office?

Yes, this is one of the unique advantages of this service. Unlike books or Catalogues that you will have to carry with you, this site is available anywhere you can access the web and from any computer or laptop, including public PCs such as in Hotels, a friend's computer etc. For example, if you are traveling to an auction and need information on a special item you saw during the Preview, you can Log In to Values4Antiques.com to search for comparables and know more on its potential value.

7) What if I cannot find an identical record for an item I am researching?

There are more than 100,000 unique entries in our database.  Although many Antiques & Collectibles were made in many copies, especially for Chinaware, Ceramics, Porcelain, Silver and Silverware, most Antiques and Collectibles are unique.  The main "trick" here is to do your research by first typing a term or keyword that is somewhat general.   Then, depending on how many results you get, narrow down your search by becoming more specific.  Once you reach a Results page that includes a manageable number of individual results, narrow it even further by clicking on the Check Box provided for each result to get more details  -  see Demo .  The reverse is also true, if your term is too general, you will get a huge number of results.  In this case, narrow it down by becoming more specific.  For example, the word "chair" will bring out thousands of results.  The term "Queen Ann Chair" will be more specific.  Similarly, "paperweight" versus "glass paperweight" versus "glass paperweight Baccarat" will give you a much narrower number of results and closer to the one you are trying to research.  You can use as many words per search as you feel appropriate, the more words, the more narrower the results.
